Syllabus Update

Sophomore College Preparatory English for 2^nd quarter

Students will:

-Read Animal Farm

-Write a research paper for Animal Farm, in MLA format

-Read Julius Cesar

-Develop a presentation based on independent research

-Learn new vocabulary

-Practice and hone grammatical skills

-Read an assortment of short stories and poetry

Junior Level II American Literature for the 2^nd quarter

Students will:

-Write a research paper based on A Choice of Weapons, by Gordon Parks

-Learn and practice new vocabulary

-Read an assortment of short stories and poetry

-Read the Piano Lesson

*Major project- Students will learn to use various computer programs and will collaborate on a creative publishing project

-Review grammatical rules and usage

Elective Communications and Journalism

Students will:

-Write journalistic articles

-Write at least one “Student Focus” article

-Develop a “How to” presentation, focusing on a talent or skill

-Conduct interviews

-Develop and present “ISP” projects, utilizing multimedia techniques

-Conduct class meetings in an orderly and respectful manner
