LEADERSHIP CONFERENCES and Opportunities

 

State of Connecticut- State Board of Education has two Grade 12 public school students seated on the Board. It is now time for current 11th grade students to apply for those positions. Students must have a least a 3.3 GPA and be able to attend monthly all-day meetings in Hartford (usually the first Wednesday of each month). Interested students should get an application from Mrs. Levin, supply three recommendations from teachers or school administrators (your counselor counts), a resume, and write a one-page statement describing your qualifications for appointment to the Board. Complete packages must be postmarked on or before March 22. If you have any questions or wish more information about the workings of the Board, go to www.ct.gov/sde.

Kiwanis Key Leader Program

WHS may select two students to participate in the conference in Sandwich, MA from May 14-16. Kiwanis will pay for the cost of the registration and help coordinate transportation, if necessary. Students are asked to contribute $25 towards the trip. More information about Key Leader is available at www.key-leader.org. If you are interested, pick up an application immediately from Mrs. Levin.

 

If you would like to be selected, write a couple of paragraphs citing your reasons for wanting to attend, and why you would be a good choice.

Please include a copy of your activities resume and your academic transcript, including your most recent report card.

 

Return your completed application to Mrs. Levin by February 22.

National Young Leaders State Conference

Westhill may nominate its most outstanding students to attend our NYL State Conference for the New England Region. Students through grade 11 may participate. Scholarships are available for qualified students to participate at one of the conferences which will be held in Wakefield, MA on December 10-13, January 28-31, or May 6-9.
