Organize your information

• Sort and organize note cares if you used them.
• Sort and organize the printed information and highlighted sections
• Sort and organize information you cut and pasted

  *Note: Never use print outs or cut and paste text directly in your paper unless you use it as a quotation.

Write/create a rough draft

(Your teacher will tell you how many rough drafts you will write.)

• First paragraph
  • State your topic on thesis statement.
  • Tell you readers what your paper will demonstrate, prove, or inform them about.

 

• Middle paragraphs

• Present the information that supports your final conclusion(s).
• Use quotations - indented long ones or short ones in quotation marks.
  • Be sure to include source information at the end of the quote in parentheses.
• Paraphrase all information you found that are not quotes.

  • Be sure to include source information at the end of each paraphrased section.
• Include common knowledge - information that you find in many sources or that you already knew.
  • Common knowledge does not have to be documented.
• Submit you rough draft to Turnitin.com.  This is a service the school subscribes to and you should register to use.
  • Turnitin.com will check to be sure you have not accidentally plagiarized in your paper/project.
• Concluding paragraph
  • Restate your thesis and/or draw you own conclusions. 
  • Conclusions in this paragraph should be supported by the information from you research in the middle paragraphs.
• Check carefully for spelling and grammer errors.
  • Word will underline some misspellings, but it misses many.
    • For example:  an instead of and will not be identified as a misspelling.

Write/type/create the final paper/PowerPoint/poster

• Follow your teacher's instructions about what to correct, change, or fix from your rough draft.
• Don't forget a "Works Cited" page at the end of the paper.
