WESTHILL SOFTBALL OUTLASTS STAMFORD HIGH 12-10 IN 8 INNINGS
Sean Otterspoor

The Viking softball team started the day off with an afternoon game at Stamford High.  Westhill pitcher Sadie Wilde opened the game with a lead off home run (her first of two on the day) and also went the distance on the mound to earn the win.

However, it was in the 7th and 8th innings when the Viking's bats really got hot.  Bella Curran blasted a three-run dinger to tie the game in the top of the 7th inning.  This was followed up when Karina Kumar smacked the second of back-to-back home runs to give Westhill the lead.  Stamford tied the game by pushing one run across in the bottom of the 7th.

In the 8th Wilde finished the game the way she started it, belting a huge three-run homer in the top of the 8th, putting the VIkings back in the lead.  She closed the game by holding Stamford to one run in the bottom of the 8th, closing out her complete game and cementing the win for Westhill.  The Vikings hammered out four home runs in the game, beat the Black Knights for the third time in the last four years, and took back the city championship trophy.
