SENIOR DEBTS AND OBLIGATIONS

Every year, WHS students are reminded by staff of items they owe the school, and the cost to replace those items if lost or destroyed. Items like:

  • Media center books
  • Textbooks, English books
  • Laptops and chargers
  • JROTC uniforms/equipment
  • Sports uniforms/equipment

SENIOR YEAR, students are NOT permitted to do the following, without first resolving their debts:

  • Buy prom tickets - this week!
  • Go on internship - two weeks!
  • Pick-up their yearbook - June 5!
  • Pick-up their cap/gown - mid-June!

“How do I know if my senior owes anything?” They recently received an email at their School Gmail, subject line “Checked Out Materials, Overdue Materials, Unpaid Fines,” from rletson@stamfordct.gov.

“How do we resolve the debts or return the materials?”

  • Students can return books, textbooks, and pay book fines or pay to replace textbooks in room 432, Periods 3 and 4 DAILY.
  • Students can return laptops AND chargers or pay to replace them in the yearbook room, 202B, all periods daily. DELL laptops are $500, and chargers are $40.

Mr. Lamour from the PE department is running AM Basketball intramurals for those students wishing to play. It runs from 6:40-7:20 Mondays-Thursdays. Currently this is open to all but we will have to restrict or have signups if there becomes too many. Enter through the exterior door to the freshman gym from outside across from the main stadium. Hello Junior Parents,

 

The class of 2024 is in the process of finalizing our plans for Junior Prom this year and we are very excited that it will be held at the Stamford Nature Center on Friday, June 2nd! To help make this an excellent Prom for the students, the class of 2024 is asking if any parents would be interested in donating to help with a few of the remaining items on our list.

 

We are looking for help with:

  • Kitchenware (Plates, Cups, Utensils, and Napkins)
  • Servingware (Serving Stands, Serving Utensils, and Food warmers)
  • Decorations (Table Linens, Flowers, Fairy Lights, Photoboth Backdrop and Props)

 

Anything that you would be willing to help with would be very beneficial to the class of 2024. If you have any questions about how to get involved or how to contribute to Prom, you can contact either Mrs. English (kenglish@stamfordct.gov) or Mr. McFillin (dmcfillin@stamfordct.gov)

  • Tickets went on sale (4/17 and 4/18) at $65 for Westhill Juniors only.
  • There will be a second round of sales (5/1 and 5/2) at $70 for Westhill Juniors only.
  • On Thursday 5/4, depending on how many tickets we have available, will open up sales for Westhill Juniors at $70 and any non Westhill Junior or outside Westhill student at $80.

The Westhill Fitness Center is open to all students after school from 2:20-3:20 every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. PE staff will be there to assist with fitness routines and equipment instruction. No experience is necessary - bring water, bring a friend and get fit! If anyone would like to donate a new or used ultrasonic cleaner for the jewelry class, room 11, Mrs. Daher - it would be greatly appreciated!

Project  

The needs of our (Westhill High’s)  student population have grown.  To accommodate this growth we will continue with project backpack, and  new program has been created, Project Benevolence.

The program Project Backpack will continue with Westhill’s counselor Mindy Midy, as the contact person.   Project Backpack will return to its roots and have its focus be food distribution to these children.

If you would like to assist in this endeavor, please reach out to Mindy Midy directly. MMidy@stamfordct.gov   We are in need of sweatpants/leggings - NO YOUTH SIZES - please.

Westhill is offering a new course/pathway in the upcoming school year – Public Safety. Information below on the course and pathway is from the Program of Studies. The program partners with local police, fire and emergency services and will give students the opportunity to learn more about many career options in the field of Public Safety. Any interested juniors and seniors can register with their counselor.

  • IN PERSON in Room 307 (Ms. Leveille) or in Room 310 (Ms. Grant).

  • Bring your payment (via cash, check made out to "Westhill High School", or money order) in a SEALED envelope labeled with your Student ID#

  • Be prepared to fill out Cap & Gown information upon drop off

  • ONLINE (service fees apply)

  • You must have a MySchoolBucks account and associate your student number to the account

  • If you want your dues with a hoodie, you must add BOTH to your cart

The Westhill Fitness Center is open to all students after school from 2:20-3:20 every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. PE staff will be there to assist with fitness routines and equipment instruction. No experience is necessary - bring water, bring a friend and get fit! Want to help WHS students and families address food insecurity?

Project  

The needs of our (Westhill High’s)  student population have grown.  To accommodate this growth we will continue with project backpack, and  new program has been created, Project Benevolence.

The program Project Backpack will continue with Westhill’s counselor Mindy Midy, as the contact person.   Project Backpack will return to its roots and have its focus be food distribution to these children.

If you would like to assist in this endeavor, please reach out to Mindy Midy directly. MMidy@stamfordct.gov   We are in need of sweatpants/leggings - NO YOUTH SIZES - please.

BABY PICS and NOW AND THENS!

All seniors were sent an email from whsyearbook (to their school Gmails) with info on submitting BABY PHOTOS, and NOW AND THEN photos. Two more FREE chances to be in the yearbook! Seniors must submit NOW! Submission 

Form closes on Valentine’s Day!

LAS LINKS TESTING

Starting on February 7th the LAS Links Form F testing will be administered to all English Learners. This test measures student’s English Language Proficiency.  Students are tested on four domains (reading, writing, listening, and speaking). This test will determine what EL services student’s will require for the 2023-2024 school year. 

370 EL students who are enrolled in ESL will be taking the test during their scheduled ESL class.  The remaining 200 EL students will be scheduled to take the test during the school day in the media center during the week of February 22.  All stakeholders will be notified in advance of when students will be scheduled to take the test. 

LAS Links testing is to be completed by Friday, March 3.  If you have any questions or concerns about the testing, please contact Denise Grant at 203-977-5635 or email dgrant@stamfordct.gov.

The Seal of Biliteracy (SoB) is a special seal that you can have placed on your diploma to signify you are literate in English and another language.

 

The SoB tells colleges and the workforce that you have literacy skills in more than one language.

 

The window for applying for the Seal of Biliteracy for seniors closes on February 16.  No late applications will be accepted.

Yearbooks

This year you are not able to purchase your Yearbook along with your Senior Dues.  If you would like to purchase a Yearbook, go to www.jostens.com and click "Shop Your School" to get started. Are you a WHS student who wants to work out, but doesn’t want to pay for a gym?

Students: GET YOUR FIT ON! 

The Westhill Fitness Center is open to all students after school from 2:20-3:20 every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. PE staff will be there to assist with fitness routines and equipment instruction. No experience is necessary - bring water, bring a friend and get fit! Yearbook is seeking the donation of a “dorm fridge,” AND ANY DIGITAL CAMERAS YOU ARE LOOKING TO GET RID OF! Gently used is fine! Want to help WHS students and families address food insecurity?

Project  

The needs of our (Westhill High’s)  student population have grown.  To accommodate this growth we will continue with project backpack, and  new program has been created, Project Benevolence.

The program Project Backpack will continue with Westhill’s counselor Mindy Midy, as the contact person.   Project Backpack will return to its roots and have its focus be food distribution to these children.

If you would like to assist in this endeavor, please reach out to Mindy Midy directly. MMidy@stamfordct.gov   We are in need of sweatpants/leggings - NO YOUTH SIZES - please.
